A socio-political group, Akala Support Group (AGS), loyal to former Governor of Oyo state, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, has called on the former Governor to with immediate effect declare his intention to contest the 2019 governorship election in the state.
The group in a communique issued shortly after its public discourse held in Ibadan, the state capital under the chairmanship of Dr. Fola Akinosun declared that the need to pressurise the ex-governor to contest again in 2019 was born out to meet the yearnings of the people of the state so that they could once again enjoy “the humane and infrastructural development that witnessed his administration during his first term”.
The group in the communique made available to journalists after the meeting while urging Governor Abiola Ajimobi of the state and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to present Alao-Akala for the election, noted that the only joker for any political party in the state is to present him (Alao-Akala) in the 2019 elections.
According to the communique, “That to satisfy the yearnings of the people in the state, it is imperative to make a clarion call on His Excellency, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala to contest in the governorship election of Oyo state in 2019, so that the succour, humane posture, economic activities, infrastructural development that was once entrenched in governance of the state during his past tenure could be repeated with renewed vigour. The earlier mentioned criteria.
“That the joker to win the 2019 Oyo governorship by any political platform is to present Alao-Akala because of serious yearnings for him by the generality of people in state.
“That the clarion call by this body should be immediately transmitted in a formal letter to His Excellency, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala.
“That, there is need to locate the right person for Oyo governorship election in 2019. Someone who can increase the pacesetting bar of Oyo state, someone who will sustain, equally re-order both social and political development of the state.
” That, for a way forward in Oyo state in 2019 governorship elections, there is a need to separate the chiff from the chaff out of the gubernatorial aspirants as it is presently an all comers affairs, where political lilliputians are gladiating without individuals who have high pedigree in governance.”
Those who spoke at the discourse include Oloye Adekunle Adebowale who said the political arena have been saturated with a large number of aspirants, “hence it has become expedient to have chart a course for the way forward and take a united position to further the course of the group.”
Others include, former NLC chairman in the state, Comrade Olu Abiala, one time chairman of NUT Comrade Amuda Babatunde, Oloye Agbo Adeyemo and Mrs. Falilat Adeyemo and others.
