The Nigeria U-17 women’s national football team, the Flamingos will start their campaign in the 2024 Women’s World Cup against New Zealand on Wednesday, 16th of October.
In preparation for the tournament, the Bankole Olowookere-led side played out a 1-1 draw with Mexico in a friendly game last week.
Faridat Abdulkareem gave Nigeria the lead in the 33rd minute, however, the opposition restored parity before the half-time whistle.
Nigeria is placed in Group A alongside the host nation, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and New Zealand.
While the opposition have qualified for every edition of the tournament, Nigeria have only missed out once, which came in 2018.
Recall that Nigeria put four past New Zealand when they faced off in the 2022 edition that took place in India, and the Flamingoes eventually finished third.
Similarly, Spain won the tournament, while Colombia were the runners-up.
However, the Flamingoes will slug it out with New Zealand yet again at Cibao Stadium tomorrow.
