2027: Dele Momodu Rules Out Jonathan’s Comeback

A prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has refuted claims suggesting that former President Goodluck Jonathan is planning a return to active politics, specifically to run for the 2027 presidential election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform.

Te veteran jounalist made this known on Friday while fielding questions on Channels Television’s Sunrise programme.

Momodu noted that entrenched interests within the PDP remain opposed to Jonathan’s return bid.

On the meeting between Goodluck Jonathan and the Labour (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, Dele Momodu explained that such political meeting should not be interpreted as signs of an alliance.

He said, speculation is common in politics, citing public reactions to a recent meeting between the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) 2023 presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and President Bola Tinubu.

He said, “Those who are saying, oh, former president Jonathan will run on the platform of PDP, I doubt, because those who are determined to kill PDP, they are still very much entrenched.

Those who are saying, okay, he and former Governor Peter Obi are meeting, it’s normal for politicians to meet. They meet all the time.

“The other day when we saw the picture of the senator Rabiu Kwankwaso with President Bola Tinubu, people said he’s going to dump NNPP and he’s going to APC. People speculate a lot.

This is not a time to speculate. This is a time to focus and strategize.

“So all this noise about this will go there, let people go. In a democracy, if you cannot agree on consensus, then let there be primary, let them go to poll and whosoever wins, so be it.”
