2027: Rhodes-Vivour Says He Did Not Leave Labour Party

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, who ran for governor of Lagos State in 2023 under the Labour Party (LP), has clarified his move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Rhodes-Vivour, while responding to questions in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ programme on Monday, stated that he did not dump the Labour Party.

He said he is part of the LP faction that adopted the coalition party, ADC, and they are focused on building a robust coalition.

He said, “The fact that I have constantly remained in the opposition throughout my political career shows more consistency than the average seen in our political circle and culture.

“I would not say I dumped the Labour Party because as you know the party is divided into two factions.

“One of such factions is pro-coalition. A coalition is the coming together of several political parties and thinkers. And the African Democratic Congress, ADC, is the party that had been adopted for the coalition.

“We are focused on building a robust coalition. I am a registered member of the ADC now. The ADC is in alliance with the Obidients in Lagos State.” 

Meanwhile, ADC in Lagos State has applauded Rhodes-Vivour’s defection to the party.

Speaking to newsmen, the state ADC chairman, George Ashiru, described Rhodes-Vivour as a champion of the electorate and added that he had taken a step in the right direction.
