24-year-old Man Kills Friend To Avoid Paying Money From Deceased To Marry Wife In Yobe

The operatives of the Yobe State Police Command have arrested a 24-year-old businessman, identified as Yunus Isa, in connection with the death of his friend and business partner, Lawan Adamu.

It was gathered that the suspect allegedly murdered his friend in an attempt to avoid repaying a N500,000 loan he had borrowed from him.

Sahara Reporters reports that the deceased and Isa were traders, selling engine oil and other lubricants in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

He reportedly took the N500,000 credit facility on false pretence of starting a new outlet with an agreed profit sharing formula, but he later used the capital to marry a wife.

After repeated failure to remit the agreed percentage of the sharing formula, Lawan demanded a refund of his capital, consequent upon which Isa lured his victim to a solitary area of Shago Tara, and stabbed him multiple times.

The Spokesperson for the Yobe State Police Command, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim confirmed Isa’s arrest to SaharaReporters on Thursday.

He said, “Yobe State Police Command announces a breakthrough in the investigation into the gruesome killing of Lawan Adamu, 28, in Damaturu.

“Recall that on September 16, 2024, the ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters apprehended Yunus Isa, 24, of Shago Tara, Nayi Nawa Ward, for allegedly killing Lawan Adamu.

“Initially, the suspect denied involvement despite overwhelming circumstantial evidence. However, following intense interrogation by State CID (Criminal Investigation Department) detectives, Yunus Isa confessed to the crime.

“Investigation revealed that Lawan Adamu was his employer and business partner in the engine oil trade.

“He borrowed N500,000 from Adamu last year with a profit-sharing agreement. However, when he failed to meet the agreement terms, Adamu demanded repayment.

“Isa callously murdered Lawan Adamu to avoid repaying the debt, killing him in cold blood.

“The swift resolution of this case demonstrates our commitment to justice and public safety,” Abdulkadir said.

He committed the crime on Sunday, 15th of September and was arrested the following day, 16th of September.
