8 Teams Qualify for GOtv ‘Hood to Hood’ Quarter Finals
As the knock out stage of the GOtv ‘Hood to Hood’ Football championship comes to an end with the last two games played on Tuesday at the NAF Base football pitch, Idimu, eight teams have qualified for the quarter final stage of the competition.
The eight teams are Juventus FC, Idimu, Namo FC, Agbado, Satech FC, Mushin, All Stars FC, Oworo, Rainbow FC, Igando, Omisco FC, Agbado, Success FC, and Pro Star FC.
In the knock out group matches Juventus FC of Idimu progressed to the quarter finals with a whitewash of United Star FC by 6 goals to 1, Namo FC Agbado defeated Junior United FC, Ijegun 2-0 while Satech FC, Mushin edged out Olope FC, Badagry 6 -5 on penalty shootout after the game ended 1-1 in regulation time.
In other group games, All Star FC, Oworo defeated Victory FC, Agege 2-0; Rainbow FC Igando beat TREM FC, Gbagada by a lone goal. Omisco FC, Agbado beat Coded FC, Ikorodu by 2-0. In the last two games of the round, Success FC defeated Junior Milan FC 4-2 on penalty after the game dreadlocked at 1-1 in regulation time. Pro Star FC grabbed the last quarter final ticket beating Beacon FC by 2 goals to 1
Speaking on the championship so far, the General Manager, GOtv Nigeria, Mrs Elizabeth Amkpa expressed satisfaction with the performance of the participating grassroots teams as well as the conduct of their fans and spectators at the various centres of the competition.
‘’We are impressed with the quality of footballing skills and the spirit of fair play demonstrated by the participating teams at the first round (knockout) stage of the competition so far. The matches have been very thrilling, exciting and entertaining” she said.
Mrs Amkpa noted that the eight teams will battle each other for the 4 spots of the semi-finals and that the lucky teams will get a set of GOtv branded Jerseys which will be used for the semi-finals and the finals of the tournament.
She also disclosed that the leading sports channel, SuperSports will be at the venues of the quarter finals for coverage of the matches and will be aired on their channels on GOtv.
She reiterated that the winner of the tournament will get the sum of Three Hundred Thousand Naira only (N300, 000.00) and a gold trophy, the second placed team will get the sum of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira only (N150, 000.00) and a silver trophy, the third placed team will get the sum of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100, 000.00) while the fourth placed team will go home with a consolatory sum of Fifty Thousand Naira (N50, 000) only.
