Prof Dora Akunyili, born July 14, 1954 in Makurdi, Benue State, is the former Director General, National Agency for Foods and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Nigeria.
Before Prof Akunyili assumed duty on the 12th of April 2001, Nigeria has become a place where fake and substandard foods and drugs were being dumped without any form of regulations.
Dr. Akunyili, a Pharmacist and Pharmacologist, has served Nigeria with all her life and with all she has got. Immediately she resumed office in 2001, she took the cartels in the health sector, reform and transformed the sector to international standard. Her footprints can’t be easily erased in the health sector and in Nigeria as a whole.
She brought hope and light to many Nigerians home and abroad. Her reform is still intact till today. She raised the hope of many hopeless Nigerians.
But, the unfortunate thing about this woman of virtue is that, she is very sick at the moment. And it seems nobody cares about this great woman who has served us with her life and put her family online to rescue many Nigerians from fake and counterfeit foods and drugs across the country.

She surface at the beginning of the on-going national confab in the nation’s capital Abuja about a month ago.
What shocked me most about the story is how people talked about her on the social sites. Some praised her while some abused her.
But, today, the Senior Pastor of Grace Assembly Church, Pastor Femi Paul, located at Yard 158, Kudirat Abiola Road, Oregun in Lagos, South West Nigeria led a powerful prayer section to pray for the Erudite Scholar, Seasoned Administrator, and a visionary leader Dr. Akunyili.
According to the pastor ‘ Go and help her because she has helped us as a nation. He continued by saying that, Akunyili made a call to close our porous border to save the country of counterfeit foods and drugs.
Pastor Femi led the congregation for about 10 -15minutes to pray for Dr. Akunyili for a quick recovery and also pray for divine intervention over her health and life.
The pastor quoted Psalm 41; 1-3 it read does, blessed is he (she) that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him (she) in time of trouble.
The LORD will preserve him (she), and keep him (she) alive: and he (she) shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him (she) unto the will his (she) enemies.
The will strengthen him (she) upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his (she) sickness. KJV.
