The Nigerian national team, Super Eagles, coached by Jose Peseiro, held first training session on September 6, 2023, in preparation for their final 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Sao Tomé and Principe.

The Super Eagles will take on the Selecao in a dead rubber match at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

After defeating Sierra Leone 3-2 in June, Peseiro’s team qualified already with 12 points for the AFCON to be hosted by Ivory Coast next year year.

For the match against the Selecao, the Portuguese strategist invited a very strong squad despite their guaranteed berth.

The first practice for the 23 players who were invited had already taken place on Wednesday with everyone in camp.

Among the first team members to report for international duty were Jordan Torunarigha, Orban Gift, and Boniface Victor.

Four players from Italy, Victor Osimhen of Napoli, Ademola Lookman of Atalanta, Samuel Chukwueze of AC Milan, and Tyronne Ebuehi of Empoli were among those who came to the camp early.

The Victor Attah International Airport served as the Eagles players’ point of entry into the capital of Akwa Ibom State.

Super Eagles are overwhelming favorites as Osimhen scored four goals when they thrashed Sao Tome 10-0 in the first leg at Agadir.
