Analysis: BBM, WhatsApp, WeChat, 2go; Eliminating Calls!

Do you remember some 12years ago when mobile telecommunications was newly introduced to the country where you buy N500 recharge card and it will expire in 7days?
Do you remember how much you buy your first Sims card? Can you account for how much you spent on calls daily, weekly and monthly?
For the record, a minute of call within the same network in Nigeria then will cost 50 naira while you pay more than that if you are calling another network. Sending message of 140 words was N15 off-net and N9 on-net respectively. A Sims card cost at least N38000. It was hell.
Not everybody was able to make use these mobile networks. Initially, it was meant to replace the old landlines in the country, but the fact is that, it was not so.
This happen for years until another network join the race, then we had a little breath. Getting a phone then is another issue. Mobile phones were very expensive. It’s not for ordinary man.
As day, week, month and years goes by, competition begins and another network joins. The network regulator forced the networks to reduce the cost of calls and messages. This make it a little bit easier for common man on the street to be able to make use of these networks. Meanwhile, the cost of a minute call is still expensive.
But today, the story has change. Who is interested in sending messages while you can send unlimited words through the new platforms?
Different range of phones has also bombarded the market which gives consumers options. Before it was SMS, then MMS was introduced, later email was also introduced and lately many applications have now taking over the calls and messaging.
Do you remember how many days you will have to wait for post man to bring your letters? How much you will spend if your post office box is in Ikoyi Lagos? You can’t just imagine it!
The good news is that, those days have long gone. Even, email is no longer relevant like before because of social media.
Wikipediadefine Social Media as the means of interactions among people in which they create, share, and exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks. It continued that Social Media differentiates from traditional/industrial media in many aspects such as quality, reach, frequency, usability, immediacy, and permanence. According to Nielsen, internet users continue to spend more time with social media sites than any other type of site.
It means that nobody will remember to call anybody because of the continued staying with the social platforms.
According to Wikipedia, BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) is a proprietary Internet-based instant messenger and video telephony application included on BlackBerrydevices that allows messaging (and videocalls for BlackBerry 10Smartphones) between BlackBerry users. It was developed by the manufacturer of the BlackBerry, BlackBerry (formerly Research In Motion (RIM)). Messages sent via BlackBerry Messenger are sent over the Internet and use the BlackBerry PIN system, so communication is only possible between BlackBerry devices.  While other platforms like WhatsApp, WeChat etc are powered by the world best application company Android.
These platforms have reduced and at the end eliminate calls for those who know how to make use of them.
For instance, if you have any phone that can access WhatsApp you can send messages, audio and video messages. So you ask yourself why you should buy a recharge card. You have no reason to buy more recharge cards.
You can do many things on your BlackBerry provided you know how to make use of it.
These means that very soon you will no longer make calls as you do now. Because with all these platforms you can record your audio and send it to your friend or whoever you want to talk to while your friend can also record his/her own voice and reply you less than a minute. So, what else do you want more?
Is news that this generation will live their lives on the internet!
So, what are you waiting for?
