In preparation for the Anambra governorship election on November 8, 2025, the Nigeria Police Force has announced a substantial deployment of over 20,000 operatives. This constitutes one of the most extensive security mobilizations in recent memory.
According to a wireless message from the Department of Operations at Force Headquarters in Abuja, all commissioners of police and tactical units have been directed by the Inspector-General of Police to immediately mobilise personnel for the exercise.
The document, marked very important, instructed formations to submit verified personnel records and salary account details by September 19, 2025, warning that units would be held responsible for any unpaid allowances caused by inaccurate submissions.
The deployment will draw officers from Force Headquarters departments, state commands, and tactical formations. Lagos and Rivers States will each contribute 1,500 personnel, while Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory will also release large contingents.
Specialised squads will reinforce the operation, including the Police Mobile Force, which is sending over 4,000 operatives, alongside the Counter Terrorism Unit, Special Protection Unit, and Special Intelligence Squad. Other units such as the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, Airwing, Marine Police, and the K9 Unit will also take part in the exercise to ensure security during the polls.
