APC Denies Plans to Replace Shettima Ahead of 2027

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has rejected claims that Vice President Kashim Shettima could be dropped as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate before the 2027 general election.

This was contained in a statement released on January 26, 2026, signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

The ruling party said it had noticed increasing reports in the media suggesting that Shettima could be dropped and that some names were already being discussed as possible replacements.

The party described the stories as false, misleading, and without any basis.

The APC said there is no discussion within the party about changing the current presidential ticket, adding that the reports are driven by people who want to create tension and confusion in the country.

It warned media organisations against giving space to rumours and unverified sources whose aim is to cause division.

The party also pointed out that political activities ahead of the 2027 election are not yet allowed under existing laws and electoral rules.

It said its present focus is on backing President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima as they carry out the Renewed Hope agenda and push through reforms meant to improve the economy and the lives of Nigerians.

The APC further advised ministers, senior government officials, and party leaders to avoid making statements that could fuel unnecessary talk about the next election.

It urged them to concentrate on their duties and support the administration’s programmes.
