The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the National Working Committee (NWC), the Progressive Governors Forum on Monday night reportedly submitted a shortlist of five aspirants to President Muhammadu Buhari.
It was gathered that the governors submitted the list at the request of Mr. President after all members of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) and the NWC met him to protest what they described as a coup against the ruling party in announcing Senate President Ahmed Lawan as the President’s choice of candidate.
On the list currently being considered by President Buhari and from which on consensus candidate would emerge are:
1) Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State,
2) Governor of Ekiti State and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, Dr. Kayode Fayemi,
3) Former Lagos State Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu,
4) Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and
5) Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi.
The Progressive Governors on Monday had stormed the National Secretariat of the party protesting the unilateral announcement of Ahmed Lawan as President Buhari’s preferred candidate.
