Arsenal have officially completed the signing of 23-year-old Ecuadorian centre-back Piero Hincapié from Bayer Leverkusen. The deal, structured as a season-long loan with an obligation to buy, is worth €52 million and also includes a 10% sell-on clause.
Hincapié arrives in North London with an impressive reputation, having played a key role in Leverkusen’s Bundesliga title-winning campaign. Known for his composure on the ball, ability to carry possession forward, and strength in aerial duels, the defender is expected to add both depth and quality to Mikel Arteta’s backline.
The move comes at a critical time for Arsenal, who are pushing to strengthen their squad as they chase Premier League glory this season. His arrival not only bolsters defensive options but also brings valuable experience from competing at the highest level in Germany.
The transfer was finalized in the closing stages of the summer window, following departures such as Jakub Kiwior’s switch to Porto. These outgoing deals allowed Arsenal to remain financially balanced and compliant with UEFA’s financial regulations while still securing one of Europe’s most promising defenders.
