

Bandits have reportedly killed two people and kidnapped an unknown number of persons in another attack in the Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State on Thursday.
However, the state police command says in a fierce gun battle with the bandits, it foiled a kidnap attempt and rescued 13 victims in the process while others were whisked away by the bandits.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, in a statement made available to newsmen late Thursday in Katsina, said suspected bandits armed with weapons such as AK-47 rifles, shooting sporadically, attacked Maibakko village, Sabuwa LG and kidnapped the residents.
“On February 6th, 2025, at about 0143 hrs, our operatives received a distress call at Sabuwa Divisional Police Headquarters that a group of suspected bandits armed with dangerous weapons such as AK-47 rifles, shooting sporadically, attacked Maibakko village, Sabuwa LGA, kidnapping residents.

“Swiftly, operatives moved to the scene where a fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the foiling of the kidnap attempt and successful rescue of 13 victims. Unfortunately, the bandits shot and killed two persons and injured one.
“The rescued victims, who were shaken but unharmed, have been reunited with their families. Efforts are being intensified to ensure the unhurt rescue of the other victims and the arrest of the perpetrators.
“The command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and will continue to work tirelessly to prevent and combat crime and to bring those who engage in criminal activities to justice”, he said.
