Bauchi Governor Dismisses APC Defection Speculation, Reaffirms PDP Loyalty

The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has shot down rumors suggesting he may be switching allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, calling the reports entirely unfounded.

The governor spoke shortly after Eid-el-Fitr prayers, where he addressed journalists on the political situation in the state and within the PDP.

Mohammed stated that he remains committed to the PDP, insisting that reports suggesting otherwise were not true.

He said his political decisions would always reflect the interests of the people of Bauchi State.

“Leadership must reflect the collective will of the citizens, not personal ambition or pressure from political groups,” he said.

While acknowledging internal challenges within the PDP, the governor expressed optimism that the issues would be resolved ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“We are where we are today. Politics is dynamic, but we must be strategic to benefit our supporters and party members,” he added.

Mohammed urged politicians to prioritise unity and avoid divisive actions that could heighten political tension in the state.

“This is a state with a rich democratic tradition. We must avoid the politics of hostility. Power comes from God, and the people will always decide,” he said.

He stressed that politics should be driven by vision, integrity, and service, rather than desperation for power.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness, noting that opposition voices would continue to operate freely.

He also pledged continued support for youth participation in politics and leadership development.

On governance, Mohammed acknowledged existing security and developmental challenges but assured residents of his administration’s commitment to addressing them.

He called on citizens to support security agencies and remain vigilant, emphasising that peace and stability are critical to the state’s progress.
