Video footage of the moment one of the alleged killers of Deborah, a female student at the Shehu Shagari College of Education (SSCOE) Sokoto, confessed to perpetrating the dastardly act.
In the footage, a young man wearing a native outfit and cap, was filmed with a box of matches in his left hand.
Speaking in the Hausa Language, his speech was translated to English Language. Specifically, the yet-to-be-identified youth had said: ‘‘I killed her. I burnt her. You can see the matchbox I used in setting her ablaze here.’’
Also, other voices in the video could be heard screaming: ‘‘Allahu Akbar.’’
The incident, which occurred on Thursday, May 12, 2022 resulted in the immediate indefinite closure of the institution by the Sokoto State government.
Reports have it that the deceased Deborah had sent a voice note to her class group chat; speaking against her fellow students sending religious broadcast messages to the group. Further, reports indicates that the voice note had made a reference to the Prophet Muhammad.
Subsequently, the development had seen irate students of the institution track Deborah down and beat her to death after overpowering the school security where she had sought refuge.
Additionally, the alleged perpetrators had proceeded to burn the corpse at the school security gate.
Reports also indicate that the alleged culprits have been arrested by the Police.
Meanwhile, the incident has become the leading trending topic on the micro-blogging site, Twitter; sparking a deluge of reactions from Nigerians on the platform.
