Senate Suspends Ovie Omo-Agege For 90 Days

Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ovie Omo-Agege has been suspended for ninety (90) legislative days by the Nigerian Senate.

The suspension was recommended by the Senate Committee on Public Petitions, Ethics and Privileges which investigated him over comments made by the Senator on the reordering of electoral timetable.

The report which was submitted by the Committee Chairman, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, stated that the lawmaker declined to speak to the committee when he appeared before it.

The report says Senator Omo-Agege told the Committee that he has taken the matter to court already and would not speak further.

In his ruling, Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki could not be persuaded by the appeal from Senate leader, Ahmed Lawan, who pleaded that he should not be suspended.

Saraki appealed to the Senator to reduced the suspension from 180 legislative days to 90.
