Court Bars Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Akpabio from Making Media Comments On Ongoing Case

A Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and others involved in a pending lawsuit from speaking to the media about the case.

Justice Binta Nyako, who is now presiding over the matter, issued the order on Friday during a hearing.

The case was filed by Akpoti-Uduaghan to halt the Senate’s investigation into her.

The judge directed all parties and their legal representatives to refrain from granting interviews, making social media posts, or participating in any public commentary related to the case until it is resolved.

“There should be no press interviews, TV appearances, social media posts, or any public discussion concerning this case,” Justice Nyako stated, calling for a “total media blackout.”

This order comes a day after the case was reassigned to Justice Nyako by Chief Judge John Tsoho, following the withdrawal of Justice Obiora Egwuatu.

Egwuatu stepped down due to claims of bias allegedly made by Senate President Akpabio, who is named as the third defendant in the suit.
