Court Grants Bail to Man Accused of Selling Adulterated Engine oil
Botoku granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
She said the surety must be gainfully employed and should produce evidence of tax payment.
The magistrate further said the address of the surety should be verified by the Police before the defendant is released from prison custody.
Okonkwo was arraigned on Nov.16 on a two-count charge for being in possession of adulterated Engen Super XHP oil.
Police prosecutor, Coporal Morufu Animashaun alleged that the defendant had on June 15 at Zone ‘F’ Block/Shop 5, Aspanda Trade Fair, conspired with others (now at large) to perpetrate the act.
Animashaun had further alleged that the adulterated products were being sold by the defendant and his gang as original engine oil manufactured by the complainant ( Ammasco International Limited).
Animashaun said their faking of the product had affected the business of the complainant who had petitioned the police before Okonkwo was arrested.
He said Okonkwo’s alleged offence contravened the Miscellaneous Offences Act Chapter M17 Laws of the Federation 2004.
The matter was adjourned to Dec. 17, 2012 for report of legal advice from the Federal Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
