Court Instructs Gbenga Daniel to Provide Property Records

The Ogun State High Court in Sagamu has ordered Otunba Gbenga Daniel, the former governor and current senator for Ogun East, to provide property documents for his private residence, Asoludero Court in Sagamu GRA, and for Conference Hotels and its annexes.

Justice O.S. Oloyede gave the directive on Tuesday during the resumed hearing of suit No. HCS/371/2025, Otunba Justus Gbenga Daniel and Anor vs The Governor of Ogun State and Others.

According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the judge instructed Daniel to comply with the government’s request, in line with notices earlier served on him and other property owners in the area.

Representing the state, Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, O.T. Olaotan, informed the court that an interlocutory injunction and counter-affidavits had been filed in response to Daniel’s motion and duly served on the claimants’ counsel.

Justice Oloyede further ordered all parties to maintain the status quo, explore settlement options, and specifically directed Daniel to comply with the government’s request within the two-week extension already granted. The matter was adjourned to October 13, 2025, for the hearing of pending applications.

Daniel’s lawyer, A.O. Kotoye (SAN), had urged the court to extend the interim order earlier granted, which was set to lapse after seven days.

Last week, Daniel secured an interim injunction restraining Governor Abiodun, his agents, and associates from tampering with his properties following the issuance of contravention and demolition notices on August 8.

The former governor, through a statement by his media aide, Steve Oliyide, described the exercise as “a shameful display of political vendetta rooted in thuggery.”

But the Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning, Tunji Odunlami, dismissed Daniel’s allegations, insisting the exercise was not targeted at him.

According to him, the contravention notices served in Sagamu GRA were part of a routine land audit under the state’s urban renewal programme, which would also be extended to other GRAs across Ogun State.

Odunlami explained that all affected property owners were required to either present their title documents or approach the ministry to regularise unapproved developments.

He added that the government had already extended the submission deadline by two weeks to allow for compliance.
