A Magistrate Court in Lagos State has directed that Emeka Joseph be held at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre following allegations that he physically assaulted his 18-year-old live-in partner, Ezeka Chisom.
This followed a viral social media video showing her with severe facial and bodily injuries sustained from being beaten by the man.
Neighbours reportedly attempted to intervene previously, but the suspect dismissed them.
Following the circulation of the viral video, the Lagos State Police Command arrested and arraigned Joseph before Magistrate A. K. Dosunmu-Uthman at the Ejigbo Magistrate Court on criminal assault charges.
The court ordered the suspect to be remanded in custody and formally adjourned until August 3, 2026, for further legal proceedings.
The Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Police Command, and a Superintendent of Police, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Thursday.
Adebisi said: “The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with a case of assault occasioning harm and domestic violence following a viral video in which there was a report that Emeka Joseph assaulted Ezeka Chisom.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was assaulted by the suspect, with whom she had been cohabiting.
“The victim sustained injuries to her face.
“The suspect has since been charged in court and remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre, while the case has been adjourned till 3rd August, 2026.”
The Commissioner, Lagos State Police Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating domestic violence and ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice.
Tijani stressed that the Command maintains a zero-tolerance stance on all forms of domestic abuse and violence, assuring residents that reports of such incidents would continue to receive prompt attention.
He stated: “The Lagos State Police Command has zero tolerance for all forms of domestic violence.
“Cases involving violence and abuse will continue to receive prompt attention.”
The CP further urged members of the public to promptly report incidents of domestic violence and other criminal activities to the nearest police station or formation for immediate intervention.
