Coventry City have agreed a permanent deal with Nottingham Forest to sign Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal on X on Saturday, revealing that the two clubs have reached a final agreement for the forward.
“EXCLUSIVE: Coventry City agree deal to sign Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest, here we go!,” Romano wrote.
“Club to club agreement done, permanent move and also understanding medical is now ongoing. New striker for Frank Lampard.”
Awoniyi is currently undergoing his medical ahead of completing the move to Coventry.
The 29-year-old will link up with international teammate Frank Onyeka at the club, where he will play under manager Frank Lampard.
Awoniyi joined Nottingham Forest from Bundesliga side Union Berlin in 2022 and played a key role in helping the club retain their Premier League status during his first season in England.
However, the Nigerian struggled for regular playing time last season, scoring four goals and providing one assist in 17 league appearances for the Tricky Trees.
He has since fallen behind Chris Wood and Igor Jesus in the pecking order at the City Ground, prompting a move away in search of more consistent playing time.
The switch to Coventry offers Awoniyi the opportunity to feature more regularly and rediscover his best form as he begins a new chapter in his career.
