COVID-19: Joe Biden Unveils Crisis Team Tasked With Curbing Surging Cases

United States President-elect Joe Biden has formed a 12-member Transition coronavirus, COVID-19 Advisory Board to help tackle and curb the pandemic.

The United States reported over 100,000 new cases of coronavirus on a daily basis and this is going to be the most challenging aspect of Biden’s administration.

The task force is led by three co-chairs: former Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, former Food and Drug Administration Commissioner, David Kessler and Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith from Yale University.

COVID-19 advisors to the board members who will work closely with the task force include Beth Cameron, senior director for global health security and biodefense in the Obama administration, and Rebecca Katz, co-director of the Center for Global Health Science and Security at Georgetown University.

During a Zoom in meeting President-Elect Biden stated he wants experts to help tackle the current pandemic. He said ‘‘I wanted to be informed by science and by experts,”

He continued that “The advisory board will help shape my approach to managing the surge in reported infections; ensuring vaccines are safe, effective, and distributed efficiently, equitably, and free; and protecting at-risk populations,”.

The advisory board members include

Eric Goosby, an infectious diseases expert who previously served in the Obama and Clinton administrations.
