Crisis Brews as Accord Party Faction Opposes Adeleke’s Defection

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke‘s defection to the Accord Party has been swiftly rejected as “invalid” and a “back-door entry” by a critical faction. This group is reportedly headed by Professor Chris Imumolen, the party’s former 2023 Presidential Candidate.

The Osun State Governor had announced his defection to Accord on Tuesday, citing the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Imumolen-led faction claims that Governor Adeleke’s move failed to follow proper party procedures, raising serious questions about the legitimacy of his reported action and his recent clearance as the sole governorship candidate.

According to TVC News, party insiders claim that such a move threatens internal cohesion and could deepen existing divisions within political circles.

They say this development could have far-reaching implications, especially with elections approaching.

They warn that party realignments, if not carefully managed, could affect voter confidence and reshape political alliances in the state.

Governor Adeleke had on Wednesday emerged as the governorship candidate of the Accord Party for the 2026 governorship election.

He emerged winner at the Accord Party primary election with 145 votes.

Announcing the result of the primary, the Secretary of the electoral committee, Abdulazeez Salaudeen, said five votes were voided.

“The electoral committee has delivered on its mandate. After voting and counting, witnessed by the agents of the candidate and the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“Having the highest number of votes, I declare Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the primary,” Salaudeen said.
