Crisis in Labour Party Deepens as Abure, Farouk Attend INEC Parley

The ongoing crisis within the Labour Party (LP) escalated on Tuesday, with factional National Chairman, Julius Abure, and factional National Secretary, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, both observed at the quarterly consultative meeting between political parties and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.

Vanguard Newspaper reports that a photograph of the duo participating in the meeting as LP leaders was circulated by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh.

The meeting, which is a routine engagement between the electoral umpire and political parties, brings together recognised national chairmen and secretaries of the various parties to discuss electoral processes and preparations.

It remained unclear whether the Nenadi Usman and Darlington Nwochocha-led Interim National Committee of the LP, which has been laying claim to the party’s leadership, was also in attendance.

It was gathered that the INEC meeting was presided over by the Acting Chairman of the electoral commission, May Agbamuche-Mbu.

The meeting is part of a series of stakeholder consultations ahead of the Anambra governorship election scheduled for November

The meeting is designed to allow INEC and party officials to thrash out grey areas, fine-tune logistics, and strengthen collaboration to ensure a smooth electoral process.

This marks the first meeting presided over by Agbamuche-Mbu since she took over on October 7.
