Davido Turns To African Roots, Declares Indifference Toward Grammy Recognition And Western Approval

Renowned Nigerian music icon David Adeleke, popularly called Davido, has candidly shared his experiences navigating the music industry and offered a glimpse into what supporters can expect as he enters the next chapter of his musical career.
The award-winning artiste spoke on the Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show with Eddie Kadi.
He added that he is satisfied with his achievements and now wishes to return to his roots by creating unabashed African music rather than integrating Western influences to appeal to worldwide listeners.
During his appearance, Davido stated that he has accomplished so much in his career, performing all over the world and garnering honours, including back-to-back numerous Grammy nominations in the last three years.
He also highlighted his strong fan base in South Africa, stating that a significant portion of the population connects with his music.
Davido said, “This part of my career, I have performed everywhere, sold out every arena, and I have been to three Grammys in the last three years.
“The music that is coming next is very Davido, it is very African. We have done it, so I am not really looking to really do western sounds.”
He further noted that “80 per cent” of South Africans are familiar with and supportive of his work, a reception he attributes to his collaborations with several artistes from the country and his consistent presence in its music scene.
“I remember when I had the Number 1 song on radio in South Africa, and for you as an Afrobeat artiste to get a No. 1 song in SA. Cause if you look at the top songs there, it’s American & South African music,” he said.
