
The number of fatalities resulting from a mosque collapse in Zaria, Kaduna State, has increased to 10, while seven people sustained injuries.
The incident happened on Friday at 4pm during the Muslim evening prayer.
According to Ambassador Nuhu Bamali, the Emir of Zazzau, there was an incident where a section of a mosque collapsed on worshipers who were in the second Sujud prayer. Those sitting in the affected portion were directly impacted.
The king elaborated that the individuals were buried under rubble from a 150-year-old mud wall.
He, however, directed the worshipers to pray outside the mosque pending when the repair works would be carried out.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has expressed sadness over the death of some victims of the incident.
The governor, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Mohammed Shehu, at the funeral for the victims, commiserated with their families and the entire people of Zazzau Emirate, praying the repose of their souls and quick recovery of the injured.
