The Divine Mandate Team (DMT) under the leadership of Com. Raji Adebayo, a frontline Chairmanship candidate in the December 9, 2025, Oyo NUJ election, has expressed deep shock and strong condemnation over the dastardly and undemocratic destruction of campaign posters of Comrade Akeem Abas, also another chairmanship candidate in the forthcoming NUJ Oyo State Council election.
In a statement by the Director-General of DMT, Comrade Kunle Bakare stated that “This shameful act, perpetrated under the cover of darkness by agents of destabilisation, is not just an attack on the campaign process of Abas, but a direct assault on the principles of democracy, professionalism and internal union ethics that the NUJ stands for.
“We solidarize with Comrade Akeem Abas and his campaign team on this unfortunate development. However, we declare in unequivocal terms that no member of Oyo NUJ should be intimidated, shaken, or distracted by these uncouth incidents.
“It is disappointing that those who have already sensed their impending rejection at the polls would resort to crude tactics of violence, sabotage, and harassment, instead of engaging the electorate with ideas, competence, and a verifiable track record of service.
“We warn these agents of darkness, who are desperately attempting to impose their unpopular candidate on members of the union, to desist forthwith. If they believe in their candidate, let them come out boldly and face the electorate, not hide behind cowardly acts of brigandage and vandalism.
“The NUJ is a union built on integrity, intellect and fairness, not thuggery, coercion or underhand tactics. Those bent on destabilising the process should take notice: the era of intimidation is over.
“For us at The Divine Mandate Team, we remain focused, disciplined, and decisive in our resolve. Our mandate is divine, our support is organic, and our confidence is rooted in the overwhelming goodwill we enjoy across our chapels.
“We are determined to win this election resoundingly and democratically, through the popular votes of members, not through the back door, not through manipulation, and certainly not through violence.
“We call on security agencies, the NUJ Election Credentials Committee, and all well-meaning stakeholders to take immediate action to ensure that the electoral process is not further contaminated by acts of provocation and sabotage.
“The will of the people shall prevail.
No amount of intimidation can stop a popular mandate”.
