Guber Poll: Teachers Deny Endorsing Adelabu

Following the meeting held by the Oyo state gubernatorial candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bayo Adelabu with teachers in the state, a large group of teachers under the banner of Concerned Teachers Forum (CTF) has debunked endorsing the candidature of Chief Bayo Adelabu.

In a statement signed by Adekunle Olaniyan and Kolawole Ajadi who are the coordinator and secretary of the Group respectively stated that the teachers in Oyo State did not, have not and will not endorse the APC candidate but rather advised him to start imbibing the spirit of selfless service to humanity if truly he intends to serve Oyo State in the nearest future and the teachers in the state are resolute and can’t be intimidated, deceived, cajoled or manipulated.

According to the duo, “It is disgusting, despicable, downgrading, deceptive, wishful, unfortunate and unreasonable to learn from a report that teachers in the state have thrown their weight behind the aspiration of the APC candidate. We want to state categorically, clearly and unambiguously that we (Oyo State Teachers) have never made and will never make such declaration.

“What transpired at the meeting was that truly Adelabu seek for our support but we told him point blank that it was too late to make such a request on the eve of the election. He was reminded that teachers, civil and public servants in Oyo State suffered enough intimidation, molestation, insults, oppression, repression, rights violation and unspeakable relegation in the hands of APC led maladministration in Oyo State in the last 8 years.

“We can authoritatively inform the general public that Joint Action Committee (JAC) of tertiary institutions in Oyo State met with Adelabu last week, with a promise that part of our arrears will be defrayed before election day.

“Over the weekend at Eruwa precisely on Saturday, he reiterated it by saying he had spoken with Governor Ajimobi and that it will be paid Monday or Tuesday. To our greatest surprise and unpleasant disappointment, Ajimobi met with all heads of tertiary institutions yesterday, where he (Ajimobi) acknowledged he is owing us but the defrayment will span over 30-35months.

“First tranche will be paid along March, 2019, salary. Meaning that both Ajimobi and Adelabu are just deceiving traders, lecturers, teachers and workers (masses) in the state. February salary had just been paid in fraction as usual (again, as it is the trademark of the APC government).

“Staffs of Oyo State owned tertiary institutions had been on strike since December last year and their salary arrears ranges between 8-20 months across various institutions in the state.

“The pensions of primary school teachers in the last six (6) years have not been paid (pensioners are owed minimum of 23 months pension), what of the salaries of teachers and staffs of state owed tertiary institutions?

LAUTECH lecturers are owed 12 months salary. Staffs of other Oyo state owned institutions are owed up to 18 months, LAUTECH has been in comatose due to non payment of salaries since the arrogant, mercy-less and inconsiderate government of APC came into Oyo State in 2011.

“During the LAUTECH financial crisis, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Engr Seyi Makinde came to the aid of LAUTECH staff by donating handsomely to the cause while soliciting for funds, likewise Chief Rashidi Ladoja and all the African Democratic Congress (ADC) donated hugely to the plights of LAUTECH’s resumption and academic regulation.

“Nobody from the ruling APC made any donation or come to our aids during the dark era, not even Bayo Adelabu who was the Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Bayo Adelabu has never had a kobo contribution to uplift or normalise academic calendar and activities in LAUTECH, or any other state owned tertiary institution in Oyo State, except the Technical University, which is not affordable to 99.9% of indigenes and residents of Oyo State.

“We want to use this opportunity to implore Chief Adelabu to learn the act of selfless services to humanity because of days of reckoning of this nature.

“We wish him well, in his future endeavours, but we want to declare publicly that the person who stand by us during our dark days, in person of, Engr Seyi Makinde of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is the one we are standing by. We are pledging and promising our support for Engr Oluseyi Makinde in the Saturday, 9th March 2019 elections gubernatorial election”, the statement concluded.
