Dozens of brick workers are believed to be trapped following the collapse of a pit in Ridawa village, located in the Ghari Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Wednesday while the workers were excavating earth for brick-making.
Eyewitnesses said the victims were inside the pit when it suddenly caved in, burying many of them underground.
Residents expressed concern that several of the trapped workers may have died, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Rescue operations, involving local volunteers and emergency responders, have continued for more than five hours as efforts intensified to reach those still buried beneath the debris.
As of the time of filing this report, many victims remained trapped, raising fears over their chances of survival.
Meanwhile, the member representing Ghari and Tsanyawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Sani Bala, said about 10 persons were believed to be trapped.
He called for urgent intervention, including the deployment of a rescue vehicle, to support ongoing efforts and prevent further loss of lives.
