ECOBA Lagos Branch Doles Out Cash And Plaque Awards To 2023 Graduating Students Of Edo College
The Lagos branch of Edo College Old Boys Association, ECOBA presented awards and cash prizes to 24 graduating students of the College to encourage excellence in academic work, sports as well as other extracurricular activities.
Making the presentation during the Edo College Prize giving day 2023 in Benin City, the Chairman, Board of Administrators, ECOBA Lagos, Education Trust Fund, Prof. E.S Akpata in a goodwill message disclosed that to emphasize the importance of good character in the success of the student’s life, a prize is awarded for the student with the most exemplary character.
“In recognition of the role of environment in shaping human behaviour, there is also an award of a trophy to the cleanest boarding house. A trophy was presented to the best class in French, as well as the cleanest boarding house.
According to him, “These prize awards are made possible by the benevolence of old boys of Edo College resident in Lagos. Their donations have been invested by the Board of Administrators of the Education Trust Fund, and only the interest is used for the annual prize awards which are, therefore in perpetuity.
“Consequently, if you have not won a prize this year, do not lose hope. Continue working hard and you will stand a chance of winning next year. Edo College old Boys in Lagos recognize that teachers serve as role models for students and congratulate them for their excellent Job.
“As a token, the best teacher in Geography is awarded a prize donated by the Ugoji family in memory of their father, fondly known as Omaha, who taught us Geography. The same endowment supports a geography project annually,” he noted
He advised the SS3 students leaving the school this year to remember that they are going to a global world and they are therefore ambassadors of Edo College and they must strive to maintain the discipline and good character that they have imbibed from the school.
The Edo State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Joan Oviawe who was represented by Mrs. A Ero presented the award for Mathematics SS3 endowed by Sen. David Dafinone Foundation to Adejumo Tiwaloluwa and the award for English Language SS3 endowed by Austin Alegeh (SAN) in his mother’s name-( Omokhuwe Alegeh) was presented to Imafidon Stephen by Chief Orhue Usiobafo Xerxes.
Chief Orhue Usiobafo Xerxes who was the chairman of the Prize giving day also presented the award for Economics SS3 to Adewolu Joseph Oluwatobilola and the award for Accounts to Agbondinwingbe Martins. Both awards are endowed by Sen. David Dafinone Foundation.
The award for Physics SS3 endowed by Engr. Emmanuel E. Iyamu was presented to Osagiobare Ehi by Chief Orhue Usiobafo Xerses.
The Fine Art SS3 Award endowed in Micheal Omo- Osagie’s name was presented to Ogiemwonyi Caleb by the Managing Director of Independent TV. Engr. Elvis Obaseki.
The MD of ITV presented the Agric Science SS3 award endowed by Osazenaye Osarenkoe to Asoro Gabriel, the Biology SS3 award endowed by Dr. AA Obiora in the name of Ms. Hilda Gregory AKA Edede Edo College, the Geography (Student) SS3 award endowed by Omaha Endowment fund was presented to Adejumo Tiwaloluwa and the Mathematics award SS2 endowed by Engr. Emmanuel Aguele to Osariemen Graham Etinosa.
The Immediate past President, ECOBA Dr. Reuben Osahon presented the Best in Drama award SS2 endowed by AVM Joe Ehigie (Rtd) to Ovensiri Nelson, the Biology SS2 award endowed by Prof. Sam Akpata in memory of Madam Ofure Akpata, was presented to Inegbenoise Eromosele Osezua, the literature in English SS3 endowed by Sir Sunday Uaboi to Enyia Emmanuel Obu and the French JS3 award endowed by Amb. Vincent Okobi was presented to Onovwiona Ochuko
The Principal of Edo College, Mr. Justice Aigbe presented the best French class award endowed by Amb. Vincent Okobi to JSS1 Pearl, the best teacher in Geography award endowed by Omaha Endowment Fund to Mr. Salami Mcdonald Andrew, the CRS SS3 award endowed by AVM Joe Ehigie in memory of Apostle Wilfred Uhuangho Egharevba was presented to Orji Emmanuel Chinedu, the Music SS3 award endowed by Prof Sam Akpata presented to Izevbizua Richmond, Civic Education SS3, award endowed by Godwin Ize-Iyamu in Memory of Mrs. Naghedo Ize-Iyamu was presented to Ikuobase Osamudiamen, the Government SS3 award endowed by Anthony Nwaoghei presented to Ogiemwonyi Caleb, the student with the best character endowed by Revd (Dr.) John Aire was presented to Adejumo Tiwaloluwa and further Mathematics SS1 award endowed by class of 87 in memory of departed ECOBA 87 members was presented to Ighekpe Moses.
The President, ECOBA Worldwide, His Excellency, Chief Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion who was represented by the Managing Director of Independent TV and radio, Engr. Elvis Obaseki urge the graduating students to uphold the character inculcated in them by the school management.
