COVID-19: Nigeria Records 23 Deaths, 1,479 New Cases

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday January 14, 2021 announced one thousand, four hundred and seventy-nine (1,479) confirmed new cases of coronavirus also known as COVID-19 in the country.

Nigeria recorded the highest number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic as twenty-three (23) people were reported dead on Thursday.

The total confirmed cases now stand at 105,478.

1,053 persons also recovered from the virus in Lagos, Oyo and Plateau States according to a tweet by NCDC

“Our discharges today include 642 community recoveries in Lagos State, 312 in Oyo State and 99 in Plateau State managed in line with guidelines,” NCDC tweeted.

The Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 in its weekly briefing a few weeks ago had warned Nigerians that if the cases continue to rise the country may consider a second lockdown as a measure to curb the spread.

The Presidential Taskforce had earlier this month also warned worship centres to be weary of annual christmas carol to curb the spread. It also issued stern warnings to Nigerians abroad who intend to come home for christmas to away or risk being locked down in case there’s a rise in coronavirus in the country.

As at Thursday January 14, 2021 there are 20,062 active cases in Nigeria.
