Everything You Need To Know About The Dream Catchers Feature On Tinsel

Over the years, Africa Magic’s Tinsel has become a launchpad for talents, introducing us to some of Nollywood’s best actors in recent years, including acts like Timini Egbuson, Osas Ighodaro, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Femi Jacobs, and more. And we’re set to see yet another exciting young face, from none other than the uber-talented Dream Catchers Academy joining the cast. Her name is Oluwadarasimi Solarin.

We’ll see her play the role of Gavou Ishaya. Exploring themes of parental abuse and its effect on children, Gavou faces a tough decision when she must choose between staying with her exploitative birth mother or receiving the care and support she needs from Bimpe (Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman). Bimpe recently found purpose in philanthropic efforts that have led her to helping children from vulnerable families in the slums.

Speaking with Darasimi, she disclosed that she was excited to finally feature on Tinsel, as she has always wanted to act. Her feature on the show is fascinating because the founder and executive director of Dream Catchers Academy, Seyi Oluyole, was at one time a screenwriter on Tinsel.

Oluyole was 21 when she first got the opportunity to work on Tinsel as a screenwriter; she also worked on Africa Magic’s ‘Hustle’ until 2020. She has also directed and produced short films like ‘Gbera (2016),’ which went on to win an award for Best Short Film at the Eko International Film Festival in 2018.

Seyi has now taken a break from filmmaking to focus fully on non-profit work, which includes the Dream Catchers Academy, a non-governmental organisation transforming the lives of orphaned and indigent girls while providing them with free education, music, dance, and arts training.

So it really does feel like a full circle moment when the talent she has taken under her wings and groomed are featured on a show that was a stepping stone for her creative career. Tinsel is more than a soap opera; it’s Africa’s longest-running and most successful drama series.

Telling a tale of love, scandal, and influence through the years, producers of the series have continued to reimagine the drama series while providing opportunities for new talent. Look out for the Dream Catchers Academy on Tinsel showing on Africa Magic Showcase (DStv Ch. 151|GOtv Ch. 8).
