Ex-Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Killed in US-Israel Military Strike, Reports Say
Iran‘s semi-official Iranian Labor News Agency reported on Sunday that former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was killed in a joint airstrike carried out by Israel and the United States.
The report said the strike targeted Ahmadinejad’s residence in the Narmak district of northeast Tehran, killing him alongside several members of his security detail.
International media sources indicated that the strike likely occurred late Saturday, though independent confirmation was not immediately available at the time of filing this report.
The development comes amid escalating hostilities between Iran, the United States and Israel, following coordinated strikes on key Iranian targets.
Ahmadinejad served as Iran’s president from 2005 to 2013, a period marked by heightened tensions with Western nations over Tehran’s nuclear programme.
Before becoming president, he held several key positions, including governor of Ardabil Province and mayor of Tehran.
After completing his two terms in office, Ahmadinejad was appointed by then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to the Expediency Discernment Council, a 48-member advisory body tasked with advising the Office of the Supreme Leader and resolving disputes within Iran’s governing institutions.
His reported death adds to a growing list of high-profile Iranian figures allegedly killed in the ongoing conflict, further deepening uncertainty over the country’s political future.
