Ex-Ondo SDP Guber Candidate Akingboye Dies in Lagos

The former Ondo State governorship candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the November 16, 2024, election, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, has passed away.

Akingboye reportedly died in the early hours of Wednesday at his residence in Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos.

Akingboye contested against the incumbent governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and 13 other candidates in last year’s election.

Confirming his passing, his spokesman, Oyeniyi Iwakun, in a statement issued to journalists in Akure, described the late politician as a man of integrity.

“With deep sorrow and a heavy heart, we announce the passing of our father, brother, mentor, and leader, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (OBA), the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Governorship Candidate in the 2024 Gubernatorial Elections.

“Otunba Akingboye passed away earlier today at his residence in Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos.

“He was a man of unwavering integrity, an accomplished businessman, philanthropist, visionary leader, and community builder who lived a fulfilled and purposeful life,” The Nation Newspaper quoted Iwakun as stating.

The statement added that Akingboye is survived by his wives, children, grandchildren, and siblings. It noted that burial arrangements would be announced in due course.

Until his death, Akingboye was the Chief Executive Officer of Benshore Maritime and Clog Oil Systems, as well as the President of WeAfrica Group.

He also held the traditional title of Olowomeye I of Ikaleland.
