Amid the opposition party’s ongoing crisis, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s National Working Committee (NWC), headed by Tanimu Turaki, held a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday.
It was gathered that Turaki arrived at Jonathan’s office in Maitama, Abuja, alongside members of the NWC and a few selected state chairmen at about 5:45pm.
The PDP leaders were conveyed in about six Sports Utility Vehicles, underscoring the high-level nature of the engagement.
According to The PUNCH Newspaper, party sources disclosed that the meeting was convened to deliberate on the deepening internal crisis within the PDP and ongoing efforts by the current leadership to reposition the party ahead of future political contests.
According to the sources, discussions are also expected to touch on broader national issues, given Jonathan’s stature as a former president and influential stakeholder within the party.
“The leadership felt it was important to brief and consult the former president on developments within the party and seek his counsel,” one of the sources said.
Jonathan, who remains one of the most respected figures in the PDP, has in the past played behind-the-scenes roles in conflict resolution within the party.
