Few days ago, a video of a couple who went to have a good time with their kids but neglect their housemaid during the merriment at Domino’s Pizza Abule Egba area of Lagos went viral online.
In the video it was alleged that the couple secluded their housemaid while they enjoy themselves.
The viral video is nothing but fake news.
And what is fake news?
According to Wikipedia, Fake news is a type of yellow journalism or propaganda that consists of deliberate disinformation or hoaxes spread via traditional print and broadcast news media or online social media. The term is also at times used to cast doubt upon legitimate news from an opposing political standpoint, a tactic known as the lying press. The false information is often caused by reporters paying sources for stories, an unethical practice called checkbook journalism. The news is then often reverberated as misinformation in social media, but occasionally finds its way to the mainstream media as well.

Fake news is written and published usually with the intent to mislead in order to damage an agency, entity, or person, and/or gain financially or politically, often using sensationalist, dishonest, or outright fabricated headlines to increase readership.
On Sunday morning, the Managing Editor, Lagos Post Online Damilare Bankole who got the lead from The Truth Be Told owned by Mrs Lara Owoeye-Wise visited the couple at their church (The Redeem Christian Church of God) in Meiran area of Lagos to investigate the truth of the matter.
“We found out that there is no iota of truth in the said video”.
According to the couple, the young girl came with her family to Domino’s Pizza to come and buy food. But, we guess that it might just be because there are too many people on the queue buying food that was why the young girl was seating near the couple that day and has nothing to do with the family.
The couple, Engr. Abiola Oluwafemi and Mrs Abiola Oluwafolawiyo got married 5 years ago and have two children.
Lagos Post Online also saw a series of footage when the said girl was leaving Domino’s Pizza with her brother who brought her there.
Lagos Post Online spoke to an eyewitness Egbedion Abigeal who was also at the venue of the incident. Abigeal said she went there to also buy food for herself met the couple at Domino’s Pizza that day and also confirmed that the girl has nothing to do with the family.

She said she has known the couple for about 5 years. She told Lagos Post Online that the couple has never employed a nanny or housemaid since she knows them. Abigeal and Abiola were in the same group in the church at RCCG Meiran.
Lagos Post Online also spoke to another person who is a journalist working with The Sun Newspaper, a member of the same church, Mrs Fatayo Oluwasijibomi, who said the couple did not have a housemaid since she know them in the last five years.
Social media user needs to be cautioned in order not to find themselves in prison for spreading fake news.
Stop sharing fake news.
