The Obidient Movement has refused to accept the outcome of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election conducted on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The group condemned the results, calling them a serious undermining of democratic values.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, seriously alleged that the election was characterised by voter suppression, intimidation, and violence.
Recall the movement had thrown its support behind the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Dr. Moses Paul, popularly known as Dr. Mo.
Tanko’s speech read:
“We address you today with heavy hearts, filled with deep disappointment and justified anger,
The declared results are not merely a political setback they represent a direct assault on the foundations of our democracy.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) mismanagement contributed to voter apathy by relocating polling units without adequate public notice.
Base on our reports many voters were unable to locate their polling centres, contributing to what it described as a low turnout of approximately 7%.
Furthermore, The All Progressives Congress (APC)’s declared victory was secured through intimidation and violence rather than the genuine will of the people.
Our agents were deliberately and systematically targeted, Musa Abubakar, was killed at the Gwagwa polling unit while attempting to prevent hoodlums from hijacking ballot boxes.
Mr. Musa’s death is not just a number “He was a husband, a father, a son, and a patriotic
Nigerian who believed in a better future for this country.
We call for a comprehensive review of the election process and urged security agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible.
This goes beyond a single election “It is a struggle for the very soul of our nation.”
