
The Federation of International Football Associations, FIFA, has announced that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system will be implemented for the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs.
FIFA said the decision is to ensure fairness in officiating during the mini-tournament that will determine Africa’s additional representatives at the mundial.
The Super Eagles will take on the Panthers of Gabon in the first semi-final, while Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo will do battle in the other last four tie.
Both matches will be played in Rabat, Morocco, on Thursday, 13 November.
The final will also be played in Rabat on Sunday, 16 November.
The overall winners will earn a place at the Intercontinental playoffs which will hold in Mexico in March 2026.
