Former Governor Wins Bauchi APC Governorship Ticket

Former Governor Mohammed Abubakar has emerged victorious in the All Progressive Congress’s governorship primary election in Bauchi State.

The Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primary Election Committee, John Bassey-Abang, announced the result.

He said on Saturday in Bauchi that the exercise was conducted on May 22, 2026.

Bassey-Abang stated that Abubakar polled 57,517 votes to defeat six other aspirants who participated in the primary election.

Giving the breakdown, the chairman said Nura Manu-Soro scored 13,638 votes; former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, secured 26,001 votes; while Bala Wunti polled 13,648 votes.

Others were Kabir Baba-Ma’aji with 8,157 votes, while Baba Suleiman and Yakubu Abdullahi got 7,688 and 7,181 votes respectively.

“Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, having secured the highest number of votes cast with a total of 57,517, is hereby returned as the winner of the APC governorship primary election in Bauchi State,” Bassey-Abang declared.

The chairman also announced the results of the party’s State House of Assembly primaries, which were held on May 21.

Abubakar served as governor of Bauchi State from 2015 to 2019 on the APC platform.

He lost his re-election bid to Governor Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general election.
