A former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has stepped down from his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing dissatisfaction with the party’s governorship primaries in Nasarawa State.
The former IGP, who took part in the governorship primaries, resigned from the APC on Monday via a letter to the party.
The letter was addressed to the Chairman of the party in Makama Electoral Ward of Lafia Local Government Area of the state.
Adamu wrote: “Today, I address my letter to you, the ward executives, especially the ward chairman, of my decision to resign from the APC with immediate effect.
“This decision was not taken lightly; however, recent developments within the party, especially the conduct of the governorship primary in the state, have made it difficult for me to continue with my political activities under the APC.”
The former IGP particularly decried the absence of internal democracy, fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for aspirants during the party’s governorship primary.
Adamu said, “I strongly believe that internal democracy, fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for aspirants and members were supposed to guide the affairs of any democratic political party.
“Unfortunately, the events surrounding the primary did not reflect this principle and have made me to lose confidence in the party’s leadership in the state.
“After wide consultations with my supporters, political associates, and family members, I have decided to withdraw my membership of the APC to pursue my political aspirations through another platform.
“Kindly accept this letter as my formal resignation from the party.”
Adamu appreciated the party for the opportunity to serve and contribute to its growth while he was a member.
He also thanked members of the APC at various levels for their cooperation and support while he was still a member.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Adamu, however, did not state his next political destination.
