Former Valencia CF player Jose Castillejo and 157 others have lost their life in the recent flash floods that have devastated Spain.
The intense storms, known as DANA (Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos), unleashed widespread destruction across the country, leaving hundreds of families mourning loved ones.
Valencia CF, where Jose Castillejo began his journey as a youth player, honored his memory in a heartfelt statement, “We regret the death of José Castillejo, a victim of the Dana disasters. He was part of the club’s Academy until his youth stage and has played for several teams in the Valencian Community. RIP.”
CD Eldense, one of Castillejo’s former clubs, also expressed its sorrow, “Terrible news comes our way due to the catastrophic DANA. We deeply regret José Castillejo’s passing at 28, a former blue-and-red player in the 2015/2016 season. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.”
Castillejo’s football career saw him move from the Valencia youth academy to local clubs, including Torre Levante, Paterna, Buñol, Recambios Colón, CD Roda, and Villamarxant.
He played for CD Eldense during the 2015-2016 season, earning recognition as a talented and dedicated midfielder.
The tragic flooding in Valencia has caused severe devastation, transforming the region into what some describe as an “apocalyptic wasteland.”
With 158 confirmed fatalities, officials fear the death toll could rise as military forces join recovery efforts.
