Four Nabbed As Okada Riders Kill Man In Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested at least four persons in connection with the death of 28-year-old Suleiman Haruna, who was allegedly clubbed to death by unknown commercial motorcycle riders in the Sabo area of Ijebu-Ode.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday caused panic and chaos among the residents, with the victim’s body reportedly being taken away by the suspected motorcycle riders.

It was gathered that those arrested by the police in connection with the crime include Monsuru Bakasheri, Sulaiman, Shaibu Ibrahim, and Aliu Rabiu.

Although the motive behind the attack on the deceased remains unclear at the time of filing this report, the spokesperson for the command, Odutola Omolola, told PUNCH that some community residents claimed the suspected mob was of northern origin.

A community resident, identified as Usman Zuberu, reportedly informed the police that the incident occurred around 10a.m. on Sunday while the victim was attending a Maulud prayer session after being alerted by other residents.

Upon receiving reports of the unrest, police officers from the Obalende Division rushed to the scene. Still, it was learnt that the deceased’s body had already been allegedly taken away by unknown individuals.

Responding to the incident on Tuesday, Odutola stated that police efforts to recover the body had so far been unsuccessful but assured the community that “efforts are still ongoing.”

She said, “In connection with the incident, four suspects, including Monsuru Bakasheri, Sulaiman, Shaibu Ibrahim, and Aliu Rabiu, have been apprehended and interrogated. All suspects are reported to be adults.

“An extensive search for the missing body has been launched, with the area under close surveillance to prevent further unrest. The investigation is ongoing, and the police have assured the public that updates will be shared as new developments arise.

“The community remains calm, but authorities are calling for continued calm as the search for the missing corpse continues, alongside the ongoing police investigation.”
