The former Governor of Oyo state, who is also aspiring to govern the state in 2019 under the platform of Action Democratic Party (ADP), Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala has promised to continue his practical urban renewal programme that will fast track development in Ibadan and the state at large.
He maintained that he would embark on massive road project in state, particularly the state capital by completing the circular road project and 14 other road projects in Ibadan as soon as he is sworn in as the governor of the state.
Otunba Alao-Akala who was accompanied by his deputy gubernatorial candidate and Oyo South senatorial district candidates, Professor Abideen Olaiya and Dr Fola Akinosun respectively, made the disclosure at a programme ‘meet the Ibadan electorates’ project organised by the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), held at the Ibadan House, Oke-Are, Ibadan, on Wednesday.
According to Ogbomoso born politician who said he will rule with the fear of God, stated that, “Ibadan is very big and as an administrator with experience, this city needs massive road expansion. I demonstrated this during my first term as governor of this noble state.
“And if you can remember vividly, I started the circular road and I am promising that it will be main project. I also reiterate that because I understand this state more than any of the current candidates, I knew as a government we knew we were to start bit by bit which I did and this I will continue again.
“I will open up more places with circular road construction in Ibadan, Ibadan is very big. I have listed in my manifesto other 14 roads in the state that need urgent attention in Ibadan as well as creating an access road to our rural areas through reconstruction and rehabilitation of more roads in the state.
“Again, Adeoyo Hospital in Ibadan is very historical, I promise that the way I treated Mapo hall, I will treat Adeoyo Hospital same way to give it a facelift”.
Parts of the roads listed for flag off and rehabilitation include dualization of Orita-Aperin-Olorunsogo- Akanaran road, dualization of Apete/Awotan road, Iwo-road/Ibadan-Ife toll gate, dualization of Mobil/Zartech sharp corner-Apata road, completion and dualization of Kuola-Bembo Games village/NNPC oradphase two, Ido/ERuwa road, dualization of Apata/BCJ/Gbekuba/NIHORT road, New garage/Podo old Ijebu Ode road and commencing operation zero potholes in the state among others.
The President General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Yemi Soladoye in his welcome address said the umbrella body of all Ibadan indigenes association declared that the CCII has no anoited candidate, also clarified any wrong notion that the platform is for debate or campaign for any party or candidate.
According to him “it is very clear that what the CCII is organizing is a meeting not a debate or a campaign. We, Ibadan are known to be tolerant and hospitable to all and sundry and hence, the CCII will not provide a platform to ridicule, embarrass or expose the pasts and backgrounds of any of our candidates. This meeting is strictly going to be 100 percent issue-based with zero percent personality-based.
“We believe that there is direct correlation between the five elements of; education, infrastructure, business revolution, financial empowerment and job creation. To what extent does our next governor understand this correlation? We do not believe that the fortunes of Oyo state and the future of our children should be tied to oil from the South-South or cows from the North-West as we actually achieved our ‘pace setter’ status from our home-grown resources in South West Nigeria.
“We will like to know what our governor will like to be remembered for after his tenure. At the end of the exercise, we are not going to have any anointed candidate; we just want our people to have the opportunity to make informed decision about who should govern all of us in the next dispensation in Oyo state”.
