Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has given his approval to sign a new long-term contract with the club, extending his stay at the Spotify Camp Nou until June 2029.
According to reports by popular sports analyst Fabrizio Romano, all terms have been verbally agreed upon between De Jong and the club, with only formalities and documentation left before the deal becomes official. The renewal is expected to secure the Dutch international’s future with the Catalan giants for the next five years.
De Jong, who joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019, has been a key figure in the team’s midfield, known for his composure, vision, and ability to control the tempo of the game. Despite previous transfer speculations linking him with top Premier League clubs, the 27-year-old has always maintained his desire to succeed at Barcelona.
This new contract is also seen as part of the club’s ongoing effort to stabilize its core squad under manager Hansi Flick and strengthen long-term planning amid financial restructuring.
