Fubara Pledges to Finish Port Harcourt Ring Road Project

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to finishing the 62.65-kilometre Port Harcourt Ring Road project. This commitment stands firm despite previous delays encountered by the project.

Fubara gave the assurance on Monday during an inspection of the project at the Eneka Flyover axis in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

The governor, who was accompanied by top aides, said his visit was to assess the level of compliance and commitment of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, the construction firm handling the job.

Addressing journalists, Fubara explained that the project had not been abandoned but stalled due to financial constraints.

He said, “You are aware that this project was not abandoned, but, for lack of funds, the contractor withdrew from the site. We have been in discussions with them, and although we have not concluded all the details, they have already moved back to the site. I’m here to confirm that.”

Describing the Port Harcourt Ring Road as one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in the state’s history, the governor stressed that it cuts across six local government areas.

He maintained that the project would ease traffic congestion in the capital city and stimulate economic activities across surrounding communities.

“I want to assure the good people of Rivers State that this project, by the special grace of God, will be completed. We owe our people the responsibility to deliver on our commitments, and this project will not be an exception,” Fubara declared.

The multi-billion-naira Ring Road is one of the flagship projects initiated by Fubara upon assuming office.

However, work was disrupted following the six-month emergency rule declared in the state, during which the governor was suspended and Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.) appointed as Administrator.
