Fubara’s Second Term Would Destroy Us Politically, Wike Declares

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, warned that his political career could be derailed if Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara secures a second term.

Wike resumed open attack on Fubara following his recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike also accused Fubara of breaching the peace agreement reached before the lifting of the emergency rule in Rivers, which paved the way for him to return to office.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Okrika LGA of Rivers State on Saturday, Wike said a decision had been made with President Bola Tinubu regarding Fubara’s second-term ambition.

He said, “We have made a decision as far as Tinubu is concerned. The other one [Fubara] no way. Because if we make another mistake, then we will go and bury ourselves politically. I will not allow myself to be buried. I will not allow that mistake again.

“So everybody should know we have made a decision.”

Meanwhile, the Rivers Ijaw Peoples Congress has shifted its allegiance from Fubara to Wike.

The chairman of the congress, Senator George Sekibo, announced the development during Wike’s “thank you” visit to Okrika Local Government Area of the state on Saturday.

According to Sekibo, the group decided to abandon Fubara and follow Wike because he has done so much for the Ijaw people.

The Senator described the feud between Fubara and Wike as “very unfortunate”, stressing that the Ijaw people were not ungrateful.

The Ijaw Congress chairman recalled with nostalgia how Wike supported the emergence of Fubara, an Ijaw son, as governor of Rivers State.
