GE Partners Junior Achievement to inspire Nigerian youths


Advanced technology and Capital Company, General Electric (GE) has collaborated with Junior Achievement (JA) to help students fulfill their dreams, potentials and noble purposes with the introduction of JA Careers with a Purpose, a program designed to assist the youth in making the right career choice.
Careers with a Purpose is one of the age/class specific program run by Junior Achievement Nigeria to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business and economics to improve the quality of their lives.  The program consists of six-60 minutes volunteer-led sessions. There will be 30 to 60 participating students per class in each session.
Speaking on the partnership, the President and CEO, GE East, West & Central Africa, Lazarus Angbazo, stated that the partnership with Junior Achievement (JA) Worldwide ties in with GE’s commitment to human progress.
“The joint effort of the two local operations of GE and Junior Achievement is to continue to encourage students to use critical thinking to learn skills that support positive attitudes as they explore and enhance their career aspirations,” he added.
Speaking on behalf of Junior Achievement Nigeria, the Executive Director, Kunbi Wuraola said that the original program of holding career seminars in secondary schools around the country exposed the need to have a special program to run for about 20 hours where students especially in the Junior Secondary can learn and decide on a career choice.  
“In the past two years we have had our students win second and third positions internationally in the essay competition”, Kunbi Wuraola stated.
GE and JA have a long standing relationship of creating capacity building programs that teaches students the importance of seeking careers that help them realize their life’s potential and noble purpose as well as demonstrate the importance of positive values, and ethical decision making within the context of career and life decisions.
