God Is Still Recruiting
The Nigerian Bureau of Statistics says the unemployment rate in Nigeria will be a staggering 33 per cent by the end of 2021. That means one in three people will be jobless by the end of this year. Many people need jobs but the productive ability of the country cannot carry the demands. Globally, the unemployment rate averages about six percent. Again, the world is limited in terms of its capacity to create enough to ensure all hands are gainfully engaged.
The opposite is the case with our Heavenly Father. There are so many vacancies in the kingdom because there is so much work to do but there is not enough man-power to get them all done. God is always recruiting. He is always seeking co-labourers. There is no shortage in the employment system of the creator of the heavens and earth.
Here are some of the advertised spaces in the Bible:
Worshippers: The Bible records that God is seeking worshippers. Imagine knowing that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the most powerful organisation in the world is seeking people for a one-size-fits-all role? You will position yourself as a candidate knowing you will get in. Well, the CEO or the entire world is actually seeking worshippers. He wants those who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:23&24) Christianity is a call to relationship with God and worship is the bedrock of that relationship. Even Jesus called His disciples to first be with Him before they could preach to others. (Mark 3:14)

Servants: Salvation makes us children of God, we become sons and therefore heirs of God as we mature in faith. However, God is particularly keen on having sons who with their rights and entitlements refuse to behave entitled. That is the model Jesus showed us in Philippians 2:5-9 where He made Himself of no reputation despite being fully aware of His identity as an equal with God. Service is the lubricant of love. God has plenty of errands to run. He is always asking, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for Us?” And He seeks people who will say like Isaiah, “Here I am Lord, send me.” (Isaiah 6:8) The word of God tells us that God considers sons who serve Him a special treasure.
Harvesters: Harvesters are those who understand the great commission. (Matthew 28:19) God has prepared many souls waiting to come to the knowledge of His love but He needs harvesters to take in the ripened fruits. Many more people will come to His knowledge if only you will tell them about the love of Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself looked up and told His disciples, the problem is not with the harvest (work), that has been settled. The issue is that there are no labourers to bring in the bounty. The sadder thing is that unharvested ripe produce will go to waste over time. What a situation!
God is an employer with better than competitive terms of engagement. He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Matthew 10:37&38) Jesus said there is no one who has left anything of significance because of the kingdom that will in no wise be well compensated with a hundredfold (what a deal!) in this world and in the world to come. (Mark 10:29) This tells me that the rewards of being God’s worker are both physical – wealth, health, family, peace of mind etc. and spiritual – eternal life. It pays well to be with Jesus and to work for Him.
