As part of activities marking its second anniversary in Nigeria, GOtv – the digital terrestrial PayTV provider has unfolded plans to host a grassroot football tourney – ‘Hood to Hood Football Championship’ in Lagos between Saturday 26 October and Saturday 9 November 2013. This was disclosed at a press conference which was held in Lagos on Tuesday, 22 October 2013 at the Zen Garden, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos by the company to inform the media about the competition as well as carry out the draws for the competition.

Speaking at the press conference, the general manager, GOtv Nigeria, Mrs Elizabeth Amkpa disclosed that the ‘Hood to Hood’ football championship is aimed at developing football at the grassroots by engaging the youth positively and redirecting their energy towards sports, and to further entrench the brand with its core target market.
She stressed further that the GOtv ‘Hood to Hood’ football championship is one of the ways through which the pay-TV operator is contributing to the society in which it operates.
Mrs Amkpa noted that football is not only a global phenomenon but also the sport of choice for Nigerians which has over the years become a unifying factor with great entertainment value which is in sync with the GOtv brand promise to deliver family entertainment to Africa.

“Among our programme genres is Sports, offering three channels – SuperSport Select, SuperSport Select 2 and SuperSport Blitz, and games from this tournament will broadcast via these channels,” she said.
She then announced that the winning team of the tournament will go home with a cash prize of Three Hundred Thousand Naira only (N300, 000.00) and a gold trophy, the second placed team will get the sum of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira only (N150, 000.00) and a silver trophy, the third placed team will get the sum of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100, 000.00) while the fourth placed team will go home with a consolatory sum of Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000) only.
